Es Mercadal sits at the geographic centre of Menorca, at the foot of Monte Toro, the island's highest point. Its municipality is one of the most varied: it combines the whitewashed inland town with the fishing village of Fornells and some of the most spectacular wild beaches on the north coast.

This map gathers the essentials of the municipality —what to see, where to eat and the best beaches— to plan your visit. From the centre of Es Mercadal you can drive up Monte Toro in a few minutes; the north coast (Cala Pregonda, Binimel·là, Cavalleria) is a short trip towards the sea.

Tip: go up Monte Toro on a clear day to see the whole of Menorca from coast to coast, and book a table in Fornells if you want to try the lobster stew (caldereta de langosta). Many north-coast coves are reached on foot: bring water and comfortable shoes.
